What Is Protective Clothing?

2025-01-09

Protective clothing, also known as isolation gowns, is worn by medical staff in hospitals and other medical institutions to protect against contamination. It provides protection against droplets and contact transmission.

Protective clothing is a type of protective equipment used in medical settings. Made of polyethylene, it is tensile-resistant, tear-resistant, waterproof, and oil-resistant. Uses of Isolation Gowns: Medical isolation gowns are primarily used in hospitals, laboratories, operating rooms, and other settings to protect medical staff from bacteria, viruses, dust, and microbial contamination.

Applications of Isolation Gowns: Isolation gowns are suitable for operating rooms, delivery rooms, ICUs (neonaten/infant rooms), blood banks, supply rooms, laundries, laundromats, hospitals, pharmacies, and other settings, as well as food processing, catering, laboratories, biosafety, and chemical labs.

Protective clothing is generally divided into three types.

The first type, standard, is used primarily for non-communicable diseases, such as common colds and fevers. In these cases, doctors and nurses only need to wear a standard white isolation gown and no additional protective clothing.

The second type, thickened, is used primarily for infectious diseases, such as hepatitis A and B. In these cases, in addition to the standard white isolation gown, a thickened yellow or green protective suit (i.e., a yellow chemical protective suit) is also required.

The third type, one-piece, is used primarily for the prevention of highly contagious diseases, such as HIV/AIDS. For these specific infectious diseases, not only the white one-piece isolation gown but also a red medical protective suit is required.
